JAKARTA: Sales of motorcycles ahead of Ramadan in August is expected to increase to 10% from the previous month, following the increase in the purchase of means of transportation for the benefit of homecoming Lebaran.

Chairman of the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) Gunadi Sindhuwinata said the high vehicle sales in August is expected because of Ramadan and Idul Fitri falls on the same month.
He explained, if the average motorcycle sales in the months usually reach 678,000 units, ahead of the Eid could reach 700 000 -750 000 units.
Meanwhile, motorcycle sales in July is a bit slow because it coincides with the entry of new school year so that people allocate funds for the educational needs of children.

He added the increase in sales was also followed by a surge in auto parts needs are up 20% compared with previous months position.
AISI data recorded, the volume of motorcycle sales in Indonesia reached 4,073,813 units during the first semester / 2011. Of these, sales value estimated at Rp40, 73 trillion, assuming a price of Rp10 million each bike.
"We estimate that sales figures could be higher because there are some segments of the motor that cost over Rp 10 million per unit," ujanya.
